The Mitchell On Demand Story For
more than eighty years, Mitchell has been the premier provider of automotive
repair and estimating information to the professional automotive industry.
The industry knew us for many years by our "Mitchell Manuals,"
a fixture in American and Canadian automotive repair facilities. Over
the years, we've gone by several names including Mitchell Repair
Information Division of Mitchell International, Mitchell
Repair Information Company (MRIC), and now as Mitchell
1. Over the decades one thing has remained constant: a superior
editorial and publishing process which has meticulously edited OEM repair
information and redrawn OEM illustrations and diagrams in a clear, consistent
format.
Mitchell On Demand In 1989 Mitchell sold the automotive industry's first computerized automotive repair information system: Mitchell On Demand to a gas station on the east coast. On Demand Version 1.x used the DOS operating system to deliver repair procedures, TSBs, repair illustrations, and wiring diagrams via CD-ROM on IBM-compatible PCs. From the very beginning, On Demand featured simple, quick access to repair data, offering keyboard and lightpen navigation and shortcuts via Function Key [Fx] to commonly accessed program features. On Demand was an instant success, gaining widespread industry acceptance and acclaim. Mitchell On Demand for Windows (16-bit)
The introduction of Shop Management Software (later renamed Manager/ManagerPlus) combined with the repair and estmating products gave Mitchell the first truly integrated suite of shop information software. Versions of On Demand were also developed for facilities specializing in UnderCar, Transmission, and Heavy Truck Repairs. More information::> OnDemand5

Heavy Truck Mitchell On-Demand for Windows (32-bit) The advent of a new and much improved version of Windows, Windows 95, also led to On-Demand for Windows, version 4.x. Version 4.x took advantage of Windows 95 (and 98, ME, and Windows 2000 later) 32-bit architecture, offering a cleaner interface and quicker data access. On-Demand for Windows Version 4.x was also the first version of On-Demand software to take advantage of DVD technology. Along with Mitchell's superior editorial and data compression technology, DVD delivery allowed a virtual library of Repair Procedures, Service Information, Wiring Diagrams, TSBs, and much more to fit on a single DVD. Version 4.x was also the first version of On-Demand capable of supporting multi-user (networked) access to a single repair and estimating subscription. Mitchell 1 OnDemand5
The desktop edition of OnDemand5 v.5.5 and v.5.6 takes another giant leap forward with the introduction of smarter searching, more stored quotes and lookups, and most significantly, color-coded Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) wiring diagrams. SVG wiring diagrams are truly a quantum technological leap forward allowing technicians to scale graphics without degradation and perform full-text searches in clear, crisp, color. Simply put, SVG is better technology, and only Mitchell has it. More Information::> v.5.5
